Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff is in advanced talks to offload part of his ownership stake in the Mercedes F1 outfit.

The deal estimates the Mercedes team at £4.6bn – an unprecedented figure for a Formula 1 squad – following McLaren were valued at £3.5 billion in an adjustment to ownership structure in September.

The Austrian executive, who owns one-third of Mercedes F1, plans to divest a shareholding in the region of five percent.

The 53-year-old will remain as team boss and CEO should the deal proceed.

Shareholder Structure

Remaining partners in the team are Mercedes and chemicals giant Ineos Group, who each also own a third of the enterprise.

An official representative stated: "We will be making no comment on the matter. The governance of Mercedes F1 stays unchanged, and all three partners are fully committed to the ongoing success of the brand in Formula One."

Financial Increase

This arrangement would represent a substantial rise in value of Mercedes F1 after Ineos acquired its share for £208 million in 2022.

This surge reflects the expansion in market values of Formula 1 outfits recently due to the growing popularity of Formula 1 globally.

This trend was evident with the box-office performance of the Formula 1 film featuring Hollywood star Brad Pitt, which debuted in summer 2023 and has grossed over $630 million (£458 million) at cinemas worldwide.

The film represents Pitt's most successful movie and the most successful sports movie ever released.

Present Standings

Mercedes are second in the team standings, behind McLaren, with three races left in the current championship.

Mercedes' primary racer George Russell has secured victory in two of the 21 grands prix so far and is in fourth place in the individual standings behind McLaren drivers Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri, and Red Bull Racing's Max Verstappen.

The team secured a record eight consecutive constructors' championships and seven drivers' titles, six for Lewis Hamilton and one by Nico Rosberg, from 2014 to 2021.
